Rewilding Post Industrial Land

Rewilding is a progressive approach to conservation. It’s about letting nature take care of itself, enabling natural processes to shape land and sea, repair damaged ecosystems and restore degraded landscapes. Through rewilding, wildlife’s natural rhythms create wilder, more biodiverse habitats.

Oak guardianship

working in partnership with savetheoaks.com Director Willo has become an Oak Guardian, taking responsibility for sapling care and distribution of the young Common English oaks.

Community Orchard

Our community orchard was planted in 2011, with new trees added every year. In 2020 we received a bursary from The Peoples Trust For Endangered species. We have planted over 30 fruit trees this year, many of our fruiting trees are heritage varieties indigenous to the area.

Willow Coppice

Coppicing is the practice of cutting trees and shrubs to ground level, promoting vigorous re-growth and a sustainable supply of timber for future generations. Cutting an established tree down to it’s base instigates the fresh growth of many smaller shoots, which quickly grow upwards towards the sky. We intend to supply basket weavers and other such artisans with our coppiced willow, encouraging growth in the local craft industry. Workshops will be held on site to ensure such skills are passed on for future generations

Tree planting update April 2023

We have a new supply of bare rootstock trees to put into the ground in March 2023. Thanks to Camborne Town Council and the Woodland Trust for their support and generosity as we continue with our reforesting and rewilding mission.
We are very happy to receive more sapling trees from The Woodland Trust in March 2023 and we are now offering regular sessions for local people to share the joys of tree planting
Gardeners of all ages are invited to help us plant these young trees. There’s something for everyone in the tree planting sessions…we forage and cook a shared vegan meal together at the end of a day spent in the wild outdoors.

It’s been a wonderful season of tree planting, just getting the last in the ground as more established specimens come into flower. Massive gratitude to @cambornetowncouncil and @woodlandtrust for the trees. We have some really exciting stuff happening throughout April 2023, check our Events page for more details as we are hosting some amazing tree planting experiences here throughout the month.

In Autumn 2021 we planted our cider apple orchard. The trees came from Adam’s Apples and are now settling in to their new hillside setting. Apple varieties include Golden Bittersweet, Captain Broad, Cornish Honeypinnick, Browns and Langworthy
Our cider apples will be ready to harvest in a few years from now. Each tree needs at least three years growth before bearing fruit. Every tree is surrounded by a layer of cardboard to suppress weeds and retain moisture. A layer of woodchips and well rotted natural organic fertiliser was placed around the base of the tree.
Cox’s Pippin apples have struggled to produce fruit on a windy hill with little shelter. The apples are delicious!
